Profile
The origins of Coburg University for Applied Sciences can be traced back to the private school for “civic architecture”, which was founded in 1814 by the ducal architect Friedrich Streib in Coburg. After Coburg’s annexation to the Free State of Bavaria in the year 1920, the ducal educational institution became the “State Construction School”.
Today more than 5,500 students’ study at the Coburg University of Applied Sciences in the fields of construction and design, technology, computer science and natural sciences, social work and health as well as the economy. Coburg University of Applied Sciences places particular emphasis on a holistic education. Interdisciplinary projects in cooperation with other study programmes enable students to train their soft skills such as the ability to communicate and work in a team from the very start. They get a first-hand impression of what is needed to solve problems in practice and as part of a team.
The cooperative doctorate creates scope for scientific knowledge. The doctoral students work on research and development projects, and with practical partners in some cases. They transfer knowledge by supervising Bachelor’s and Master’s students and by holding their own first lectures. Routes towards becoming a professor or managerial positions in the industry are paved in the range of qualifications offered to early careers researchers : The mentoring programme for doctoral students prepares them individually for professional life through experienced mentors, accompanied by a framework programme. The interdisciplinary doctoral student’s seminar provides a platform for interdisciplinary discussion between experts and doctoral students. The doctoral students can place their research results in the social context and gain new insights.
